Hair Help!

I apologize for the sporadic posts. I'm hoping for a tripod for the holidays, so hopefully, I'll have more "Daily Outfit" posts for you soon. ;)

For now, though, I could use YOUR help.

When it comes to "beauty", I consider myself to be okay with makeup. I have a collection that probably rivals that of most drag queens, and I use most of it. I have every color of the rainbow in eyeshadows, ranging from the brightest yellow to the blackest-black. After literally practicing for years at it on myself, I consider myself to be good enough at it that I get compliments on it from time to time.

Hair - that's a different story.

In the past year, I've started blow-drying my hair...at age 27. Before that, I didn't know how (nor did I CARE to know how) to blow dry at all. I've used straightening irons, which I thought was pointless on my poker-straight hair til I actually tried it. I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to hair.

While I love the color and cut of my hair right now more than I ever have, I long to make it into a style I LOVE. A style that I've loved for literally decades now.

This is my hair now:
Layered with bangs, a bit past my shoulders and as straight as straight hair comes. My hair is also thin-ish.

Now, this is the style I want to achieve (and this is the part where I hopefully don't freak Miss Ashley out):

(His hair - not hers)

Essentially, I want BIG, TEASED hair. I've tried attacking my hair with a teasing comb and hairspray, only to have it be as flat as a pancake a few hours later. I've tried blow-drying my hair upside-down. I've tried volumizing shampoo, conditioner and mousse.

I'm out of ideas!

So help me, oh-so-fashionable ones out there. ;)

Have you tried blow drying straight upside down with volumizing mousse and then taking a straightener to it? I would try to straighten directly up, spray with STRONG hairspray and make sure you get the base of the hair. Let dry while holding up straight and hopefully it will help you get some volume.

Actually, I haven't tried straightening UP. I think I might need a more hardcore straightener for that. The one I have is a semi-crappy Conair straightener.

Thank you for the tips!!

Google how to scene hair. There are a few videos on youtube, and some websites with instructions.

That actually gave me some decent ideas. Thank you!

There's a YouTube video on how to tease hair that may be of help..it's from a girl working for the CW in Arkansas I think. I caught onto the whole hair thing a little late too! Basically hairspray on roots + rat tail comb = big hair! I like Bumble + Bumble's Does It All Hairspray since it gives great hold but isn't rock hard. Their Classis Hairspray works great too. A good flat iron will be of help too. If you want a good quality flat iron at a reasonable price, the TIGI Bed Head line at Target is a good option.

Lots of layers, good ole Rave hairspray, lots of upside down blowdrying action. Used to work for me.

maybe your layers are too long. i can't really tell from your pictures, but maybe they're weighing it down up top.

Corinne: Thank you, babe!! Yeah, I've tried teasing and spraying the hell out of it, but it only seems to last a little bit. UGH!

Starslight55: Thank you! I'm thinking I need to be upside-down more. haha

Michelle: I think you might be right. I haven't gotten the top layers trimmed in a bit, and maybe it's time. Thank you!

All I ever did was tease the crap out of it until it was sort of a teased ball of hair and then use my fingers to pull it out if that makes sense and to shape it. Then, I just sprayed the crap out of it with hairspray!

Ashley: Thank you, lady. I hope I didn't freak you out at all by putting your pic there. LOL I just LOVE your hair in that pic. :D

I think maybe I need to get shorter layers on top and some stronger hairspray. Thank you for the tips.
